A collaborative bookwork between visual artist Jamelie Hassan and poet Jamila Ismail created as the publication for Jamelie Hassan’s solo exhibition “Two Women in One”, at Presention House, North Vancouver in 1991. This bookwork examines in words and images geographical, political and cultural references to Canada, North Africa, the Middle East and China where Jamila Ismail presently resides. The work’s title is a reference to the significance of their shared name.

Jamelie Hassan is a visual artist based in London, Ontario. She works in numerous formats and has been involved with other cultural collaborations over the years. Jamila Ismail is a poet living in Hong Kong, who formerly resided in Vancouver, BC. Her poetry has been published in both Canada and Hong Kong. The last time J. Hassan & J. Ismail met was in in 2005 in Cairo, Egypt, where they both participated in cultural projects.
Presentation House Gallery is located in North Vancouver and is known for it’s work in the presentation of exhibitions of artists working in photographic and moving image formats.
