Three Books and a CD about Plants and Animals and War is a boxed set in four parts. Three parts are books and one part is a CD. The books were published separately by the KW, Berlin, KWAG Kitchener, ICA London, YYZ, Toronto and Walther Konig, Cologne. The Boxed edition in this submission is published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig in 2011. The books in the trilogy consist of a series of texts, photos and simple drawings. The first book, Bird Radio (KW, Berlin, KWAG, Kitchener and Wather Konig, Cologne, 2007, ed of 1250), describes the proper operation of the Bird Radio transmitter unit and the 17 bird calls connected to it. The birds represented are native to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Americas. The second book, The Flora and Fauna Information Service: 0.800.0.FAUNA.0.FLORA, (ICA, London, 2008, ed of 500) consists of the complete text of the toll-free interactive telephone service by the same name. It provides solutions to help you help protect plants and animals in war-ravaged areas. The third book is called Two Boiler Suits and a Play List (YYZ, Toronto, 2010, ed of 1000). It looks at primate behaviour in extraterritorial prison camps and describes the chattels that prisoners receive when they arrive at Guantanamo Bay. The fourth part of this boxed set is a mini-CD. The CD contains four tracks. The first and second tracks are recordings of children describing the life of the birds that are part of Bird Radio followed by a demonstration of the sounds and songs of each bird. The third and fourth tracks are excerpts from the 0.800.0.FAUNA.0.FLORA toll free telephone service. Bird Radio is published by KW in Berlin, KWAG in Kitchener and Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig in Cologne. Bill Burns is an artist living in Toronto. His work about animals and civil society has been shown in solo projects at the Foundation Cristina Enea, San Sebastien, Spain (2010), Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2008), the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2007) and the Wellcome Trust, London (2002) as well as in major thematic shows at the Seoul Museum of Art, Seoul (2002) and the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2006). His multidisciplinary projects include writing, audio, photography, print and sculpture. He is the artistic director of the Dogs and Boats and Airplanes Children’s Choir whose entire non-linguistic repertoire is developed in collaboration with choristers. The choir embarks on a tour of Australia in 2013.
