Pith – {The Heart of}{the Essence} is a zine by Victoria artist Charlotte Cynthia Walton, aka C.C. Walton. The zine highlights works from Charlotte’s sketchbook, scans from 3 dimensional paper sculptures and paper cut-outs.
“At present my work is very internal. A direct correlation with deep inner conflict. Conflicting inner voices have been brought to the surface through self inspection. I have felt the most doubtful about my creations than I have ever been. Fear can be a very strong hold fast.”
“Resolving it has not been easy. I find that my inclination to draw is quickly stopped by old pain. Addressing this has not only been slow but I have had to retrain my unwillingness to be patient with myself. Many of my drawings of late represent these aspects of each emotion I encounter. Instead of relating to others pain as I have done in the past I am learning that it is my own deep turmoil. I have also learned that I am allowed to speak about it without fear.”
“My work recently might just include my own face. As opposed to the animals I always revert to drawing. I have learned that art is not about feeding my ego. I have stopped trying to inflate it. I have stopped trying to push it. To make it the most relevant work in the world. Now when it comes through me it is very pure. I have not been traveling out in the world, selling my work abroad, showing abroad as I used to do. I have been on a journey deep within. Roads I use to dare not look at are being realized.”
“Let me take you inward.”
“Let me show you my heart.”
