2011 ABotM

The Race to the ABotM

This year’s jury, Michelle Jacques of the Art Gallery of Ontario and Melanie O’Brian of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, were locked in a room with the submissions to this year’s prize and not let out until they managed to sort and compile the list of books that can be called an Artists’ Book of the Moment. The final decision is …

The jury was deadlocked. This one or that one. Which one would it be?

Well, why not both. So, for this year, a precedent setting tie:

Antonia Hirsch, Komma (after Dalton Trumbo’s Johnny Got His Gun). [Published by Fillip]

and

Gareth Long & Derek Sullivan, The Illustrated Dictionary of Received Ideas 2010 Galley #5. [Published by Artexte]

With great congratulations to both books, their creators, and their shepherds.

We’d like to thank all artists who sent in candidate books. You made the jurying process that much more difficult, and we appreciate it. We’d also like to continue to thank Joe Friday for making this year’s award possible.
