Gwayakwaadiziwin (Honesty) Entourage
The Entourage is a supporting group of individuals who have played a significant role throughout the process of making the Ring of Fire, from actually making costumes, to creating the music to devising the choreographic movement language used during the procession itself. The Entourage for Honesty contains has an icon as part of the mask, which acts as a kind of annulet and also as a metaphorical mirror that allows the player to reflect honestly on their character. This Entourage also reflects us or we are reflected in them, opening up another avenue of participation in this procession.
Here are a selection of Marlon Griffith’s initial sketches, artistic renderings, technical drawings, and images of the design process and creation of the costumes for Honesty’s Entourage. This is a group of hummingbirds glistening white, blue, and iridescent pearl in the sun: their jewel-like presence hard to ignore as we are reflected in the very make-up of their costumes. This Entourage also reflects themes embedded in the character of this entire procession: the combination of hard and soft forms, of characters full of strength and vulnerability, of time’s past and the future’s immanence; transformation from duality to a singularly manifesting presence. This duality now also includes us, as we become a part of them.
