SKETCH is a community-arts-development initiative based in Toronto engaging young people homeless and on the margins, ages 16-29, from across Canada. SKETCH creates equitable opportunities for diverse young people to experience the transformative power of the arts; to develop their leadership and self-sufficiency; and to cultivate social and environmental change through the arts. Throughout the month of July, Sketch hosts an intensive ‘mas’ camp that combines the visual arts, movement, and music programs to create contribute costumes for the procession, the movement sequences of the entourage performers, and create the musical score, a collaboration between the First Nations youth group Alternative Roots and the SKETCH Band. Youth affiliated with SKETCH and who work on the various components of the project will play “mas” as members of the Entourage in the procession.
